Are you a warm, welcoming, and empathetic person willing to help connect widowed people with SSC programs and resources? We are looking for someone to be a soft landing for widowed people reaching out for information. We need someone to regularly check our voicemail and email accounts and help answer inquiries and / or direct people to the appropriate person or resources.
As a volunteer run organization, it would be helpful to have someone who can make an annual commitment of an average of 3 hours a week to manage inquiries, manage the Board calendar, schedule virtual meetings and other administrative tasks.
The position reports to the Chair of the Board and requires someone who can be helpful while maintaining a professional and appropriate level of support. The perfect candidate may not exist; ideally, the person filling this Key Volunteer role will have many of the following qualifications:
- Lived experience with grief, loss, and bereavement.
- Ability to express and represent SSC values in all interactions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional, patient, and thoughtful demeanor with excellent customer service skills.
- Detail oriented and reliable.
- A team player who is comfortable working independently.
- Comfort working in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and similar programs.
We hope this will be an interesting and rewarding opportunity for a volunteer who is eager to use their skills and compassion to support widowed people. In addition to becoming part of the compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic SSC team, the Executive Assistant is a Key Volunteer position and comes with the following benefits:
- Experience in Canada’s not-for-profit sector.
- An SSC email address.
- New friends and colleagues.
Key Volunteer positions may also come with discounts on programming and products as appropriate based on volunteer commitment and resources.
