A pilgrimage can be defined as:
- A journey undertaken by a pilgrim, often to a sacred or revered destination.
- The course of life on earth (Merriam-Webster).
- A journey to a holy place that leads to personal transformation, after which the pilgrim returns to their daily life changed (Wikipedia).
On the third anniversary of my husband’s passing, my 11-year-old son and I embarked on a journey along the Camino de Santiago, hiking through Spain and Portugal. Though we were not seasoned travelers or expert hikers, nor did we speak the language, we had already been navigating the most challenging of paths: grief. This presentation delves into our pilgrimage on the Camino, the obstacles we faced, and the transformations we experienced along the way. We will also explore how travel adventures, not just the Camino, can serve as a catalyst for personal growth and healing. This workshop will include a guided meditation, journal prompts, and opportunities for reflection, inviting participants to consider how their own journeys might shape their “course of life on earth” and lead to personal transformation.
