Janice Martin
Janice Martin, married for 20 years (to a man), with two children and a rewarding career as a Forester/Environment Specialist, had a mid-life epiphany at the age of 40. A few years later she met Karin, as they both played soccer in Toronto’s Pink Turf lesbian soccer league. Karin worked on the tarmac for Air Canada, but she had a degree in Fine Arts and her passion was painting. They married in 2005, the year same-sex marriage became legal in Ontario and across Canada. Janice and Karin were together 8 years when Karin passed away in 2011, from a third primary cancer.
Janice retired in 2014 after 33 years at Hydro One and enjoys many creative, healing outlets—achieving a Certificate in Creative Writing, drawing and painting, playing hockey and softball, babysitting the new grandbabe, volunteering for Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, and looking after Gerry the ‘career-changed’ (i.e. didn’t make it as a Dog Guide) standard poodle.
Janice is now re-partnered with Mimi (they met in 2022), who lives in the West end of Toronto, while Janice lives in the East end. They are currently spending their retirement savings on parking and gas as they figure out where they will live together.
